1700 Crores Spent, But Dravyavati River Still a Drain?
Talkaaj Media: The Dravyavati River, once planned to become a clean and beautiful river in Jaipur, is now a symbol of foul smell and filth. People living near the river and those passing by say that even after six years, the sewage treatment plant (STP) has not been completed. As a result, the condition of the river has only worsened over time.
Many believe that weak action by the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) is partly responsible for this situation. When the construction of the STP began, some people managed to get a court stay on the work. Since then, the situation has deteriorated even more. Now, even the track and pathway built at a huge cost remain mostly deserted, as people avoid the area due to the unbearable stench.
₹1700 Crores Spent, But Still No River

So far, around ₹1700 crores have been spent on this project, but the Dravyavati River still looks like a drain. Without the STP functioning, the river continues to get polluted, and the stench spreads across nearby areas. This is why locals often call it a drain rather than a river.
A Hope for Change
However, the government is now preparing to take some concrete steps to improve the situation. UDH (Urban Development and Housing Department) Principal Secretary Vaibhav Galriya inspected the river and directed officials from Tata, the company involved in the project, to start cleaning the river immediately. Galriya stated that since the rainy season has ended, there is no more water flow from rain, making this the perfect time to begin cleaning.
He has instructed that the cleanup work should be completed within 45 days, with a proper schedule in place to ensure it is done on time.
Preparations for the Investment Summit
The state is also gearing up for a major investment summit, with preparations in full swing. Following the Chief Minister’s orders, the entire city of Jaipur is undergoing repairs and improvements. This includes filling the potholes and fixing roads damaged during the monsoon season.
The ‘Rising Rajasthan’ investment summit is not only expected to bring significant investment into the state but also to improve the overall condition of the capital, Jaipur. Both the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) and the municipal corporation are working together to ensure the success of this mega event.
