Google Pixel 10 Series Launched, Price Starts at ₹79,999: Pixel 10 Pro Fold is World’s First IP68-Rated Foldable Phone, Watch 4 and Buds 2a Also Unveiled
Tech company Google launched the Pixel 10 series at its annual ‘Made by Google’ event on Wednesday, August 20. The new lineup includes the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and the Pixel 10 Pro Fold. In addition, new variable devices were also introduced: the Pixel Watch 4, Buds 2a, and Buds Pro 2.
The Pixel 10 Pro Fold stands out as the world’s first fully dust-resistant (IP68 rated) foldable phone. Google is also offering 7 years of support for its phones (until 2032), which includes OS updates, security updates, feature drops, and AI innovations. The Pixel series phones are equipped with numerous AI features.
These AI features include Gemini Live, Voice Translate, Pixel Screenshot, AI Ultra Clarity, AI Snap Mode, AI Edit Genie, AI Hyper Motion, AI Smart Charging, Google AI Pro Suite, Gemini AI, Pixel Studio, Circle to Search, AI Weather Summary, and Call Notes.

Pixel Snap Magnetic Charging System
Google has introduced a magnetic charging system with all the phones in the Pixel 10 series, which it calls Pixel Snap. This works similarly to Apple’s MagSafe. Placing the phone on the charger automatically locks it into the correct position with magnets, ensuring fast and stable charging.
This means even if the phone is slightly tilted, the magnets will automatically adjust it to the right place. Pixel Snap supports up to 15W wireless charging, while the Pixel 10 Pro XL may offer up to 23W fast wireless charging. The company has not yet confirmed the final pricing for all chargers. The Qi2-based magnetic charger is compatible with both the Pixel 10 series and the Watch 4.

Google vs. Apple and Samsung: Where Does Google Stand?
According to an IDC analyst firm’s data from 2023, Google has only sold a total of 38 million phones since the first Pixel phone was released in 2016. In comparison, Samsung sold 226.6 million phones and Apple sold 234.6 million phones in 2023 alone.
5 Reasons Why Pixel Is Less Successful
- Limited Availability: Pixel phones are not available in all countries, and there’s a shortage of service centers.
- High Price: Pixel phones are generally more expensive compared to other Android phones.
- Lack of Marketing: Google does not spend as much on marketing as other manufacturers do.
- Identity Crisis: Google’s phones don’t have a strong brand identity like the iPhone or Samsung.
- Software-Intensive Approach: Google uses a pure version of Android on its phones, which may not appeal to all users.
Despite these challenges, Pixel phones have a large number of loyal fans who appreciate the pure Android experience. Google is now increasing the availability of its Pixel phones in more countries and making major changes to the camera and AI features. It’s possible that in the coming years, Pixel phone sales will increase.
