Hanooman, India’s Free Multilingual AI Assistant Writes in 98 Languages

India has entered the race of AI innovation with the introduction of Hanooman, the country’s own “largest multilingual and affordable AI platform.” This groundbreaking tool is capable of understanding and responding in an impressive 98 languages, including 12 Indian languages such as Hindi and Tamil.

Developed by SML India, a domestic AI company, in collaboration with 3AI Holding from Abu Dhabi, Hanooman aims to democratize access to AI for all in India. Unlike many AI platforms that primarily operate in English, Hanooman caters to the vast majority of Indians who do not speak English.

Hanooman offers a wide range of functionalities, including text generation, language translation, and potentially even creative content creation. This opens up possibilities for various applications, from chatbots capable of engaging in natural conversations to AI assistants assisting with everyday tasks.

The platform is currently available for free and can be accessed via a web interface or an Android app, with an iOS app expected to launch soon. While a free version is currently available, a premium subscription plan is set to be introduced later in 2024.

Vishnu Vardhan, Co-founder and CEO of SML India, stated, “Hanooman signifies a new era of AI innovation in India, and we aim to impact the lives of 200 million users within just a year.” He emphasized that since 80% of Indians do not understand English, Hanooman also supports Indian languages.

According to Arjun Prasad, Managing Director of 3AI Holding, Hanooman will ensure that AI is not a privilege reserved for a few, but a tool accessible to every Indian.

“What sets Hanooman apart is that it is built in India, tailored for India, and stores data in India. Through our strategic partnership with SML India, we strive to cater to a diverse spectrum of users, making AI inclusive and available to everyone, regardless of their ethnicity or location. We strongly believe that by empowering individuals with AI, we can unlock unprecedented opportunities for innovation, thereby contributing to the country’s growth,” added Prasad.

During the launch, SML India announced collaborations with prominent entities such as HP, NASSCOM, and Yotta. With NASSCOM, they aim to support AI startups, boost fintech initiatives, engage with 3,000 colleges, and participate in research projects. Additionally, through Yotta, they plan to leverage robust computing power via GPU cloud systems to enhance SML India’s operations.
