Big relief regarding playing-11

According to media reports, now during IPL matches, the captain will be able to choose his playing-11 after the toss. Till now the captain had to hand over the list of players’ names to the match referee before the toss, but the new rule is going to bring a big relief. At the time of the toss, now the captains of both the teams will bring two team sheets each. This will allow IPL teams to choose their best playing 11 for the match, whether they bat first or bowl first. Apart from playing-11 in the team sheet, the names of five substitute players will also have to be mentioned.

will be fined for doing so

A major change in the rules is the imposition of fines for unsportsmanlike conduct by the wicketkeeper or fielder. If the wicketkeeper or fielder changes his position before the batsman has played the ball, then the umpire will declare that ball dead and five penalty runs will be added to the batting team’s account. The umpire will inform the captain of the fielding team about his action. He shall also inform the batsmen and the captain of the batting team as soon as possible,

DRS for wide and no-ball

This time a change has also been made regarding the Decision Review System (DRS). Earlier players used to use DRS when given out or not out, but now no-balls and wide balls have also been included in the scope of DRS. That is, players can now also review the decision of wide or no-ball given by the umpire. This rule was also implemented in the first season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL).

Impact Player will change the whole game!

This time ‘Impact Player Rule’ is also going to be implemented in IPL. According to this rule, apart from the playing XI, both the teams will also have to name five substitute players each. Any one of these five can be brought as an impact player before the end of the 14th over of the innings. The impact player will be able to bat and bowl like any other cricketer. The player who is out after the impact player comes into play will not be used in the entire match.

The impact player can be fielded only during events such as the end of the over, the fall of a wicket or injury to a player. If the match is reduced to 10 overs or less due to rain or other reasons, the impact player will not be fielded. That is, the match is at least 11 overs only then the impact player will come into play. The impact player can only be an Indian player unless there are at least four overseas players in the playing XI. To signal an impact player, the umpire will cross his arms over his head and clench his fists.

Penalty for slow-over rate

This time in IPL 2023, there is a provision of penalty for teams for slow-over rate. If a team does not bowl its overs in the stipulated time, only four fielders instead of five will be allowed outside the 30 yards during each over. This rule came into force during the T20 World Cup held last year.
