The Income Tax Department posted on X, “The last date for filing ITR for Assessment Year 2025-26 was originally July 31, 2025, and was extended to September 15. The CBDT has now decided to extend the last date for filing ITR for Assessment Year 2025-26 from September 15 to September 16.” On the night of September 15 and 16, the ITR portal was undergoing maintenance from 12 a.m. to 2:30 a.m. The last date for ITR filing had to be extended once before due to delays in releasing the income tax forms. The original deadline for filing ITR for Assessment Year 2025-26 was July 31, 2025, which was then extended to September 15, 2025. This is the second time the department has extended the date.
