Neem Karoli Baba: The Revered Saint Considered an Avatar of Hanuman Ji

Neem Karoli Baba, one of the renowned saints of the 20th century, is revered both nationally and internationally. He attained enlightenment at the age of 17, and is considered an incarnation of Hanuman Ji by his devotees.

Neem Karoli Baba’s followers include prominent figures such as Steve Jobs, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, cricketer Virat Kohli, and actress Anushka Sharma. Despite the miracles associated with his life, Baba remained humble, considering himself an ordinary individual and refraining from allowing anyone to touch his feet.

Neem Karoli Baba’s Early Life:

Neem Karoli Baba, originally named Lakshminarayan Sharma, was born around 1900 in Akbarpur, Uttar Pradesh. Known by various names like Neem Karoli Baba, Lakshman Das, Baba of the Hand, Baba of Tikonia, and Baba of Taaliediya during his lifetime, Baba’s early education was in Kirheen village. He attained enlightenment at the age of 17. Baba married at a young age but renounced household life shortly after, opting for spiritual practice in a Vaishnav monastery in Gujarat. After traveling extensively, he returned to household life temporarily.

Later Life and Legacy:

Neem Karoli Baba had two sons and a daughter, but in 1958, he renounced household life again and established an ashram in Kainchi Dham after traveling to various places. He founded the Hanuman temple there in 1964. Notably, Neem Karoli Baba’s ashrams are not only in India but also in foreign countries.

Passing Away:

While traveling from Agra to Nainital, Neem Karoli Baba fell ill and had to be admitted to a hospital in Vrindavan. Despite receiving medical attention, he left his mortal coil on September 11, 1973, after taking Tulsi and Ganga water. A samadhi temple dedicated to Neem Karoli Baba stands in Vrindavan.

Devotion to Hanuman Ji:

Neem Karoli Baba was revered as an avatar of Hanuman Ji by his devotees, although he himself worshipped Hanuman Ji. He also established several Hanuman temples. Baba would often refuse anyone touching his feet, redirecting them to touch the feet of Hanuman Ji instead. Though Neem Karoli Baba is no longer alive, his devotees hold him in deep reverence, believing he continues to exist among them in a divine form.
