King Charles III banknotes: The Bank of England has released a picture of a new note bearing the image of King Charles III after the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
King Charles III banknotes: The Bank of England on Tuesday introduced the design of the first set of bank notes depicting Britain’s King Charles III. The portrait of King Charles (74) III will appear on the current design of all four polymer (plastic) banknotes in denominations of £5, £10, £20 and £50. There will be no other change to the current design of the bank notes which feature the portrait of his late mother Queen Elizabeth II.

The new notes featuring King Charles III are expected to enter circulation by mid-2024 and will be used alongside the existing notes featuring Queen Elizabeth II. Which means that the notes with the picture of Queen Elizabeth II will also be in equal circulation.
New notes will come into circulation by 2024
Andrew Bailey, Governor of the Bank of England, said: “I am very proud that the Bank is releasing the design of our new banknote which will feature the image of King Charles III.” He said, “This is a very important moment, because the Maharaja is the second emperor to appear on our bank notes. People will be able to use these new notes as soon as they come into circulation in the year 2024.”
Notes with Elizabeth’s picture will also be in circulation
He said that according to the guidance of the royal family, the new notes along with the old notes will continue to circulate in order to minimize the impact of this change in notes on the environment. Which means that the notes of Queen Elizabeth II and King Charles III will continue to run side by side.

Starting in 1960, Queen Elizabeth was the first and only Queen to appear on Bank of England banknotes. Notes issued by the Scottish and Northern Irish banks do not depict the monarch.
