From Humble Beginnings
Shailesh Kumar grew up in a one-room home with his three siblings. Born in 1986, his family of five relied on his father’s meager monthly income of 1,400 rupees. Shailesh understood early on that education was key to improving his life. Inspired by the story of India’s 1983 Cricket World Cup victory led by Kapil Dev, he aspired to achieve great things.
Pursuing Education Against All Odds
After completing his early education, Shailesh moved to Kota to prepare for the IIT entrance exams. Unfortunately, he did not succeed. Undeterred, he returned to Bihar and started preparing for other engineering entrance exams. Following his father’s advice, he enrolled in Punjab Technical University, where he earned a B.Tech degree in 2011. His next goal was to pass the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), which he did. However, low scores meant he had to reassess his career path.
Starting at the Bottom
Realizing his path lay elsewhere, Shailesh took on various small jobs. In 2017, he joined Flipkart as a delivery boy. The experience he gained there was invaluable. A year later, he launched his own company, CABT Logistics. Despite numerous challenges, CABT evolved from focusing solely on Flipkart to serving a broader customer base. The company’s revenue skyrocketed from 1.7 crore rupees in the 2019-20 fiscal year to 159.22 crore rupees in 2022-23.
Expanding the Business
Initially, CABT targeted a few cities. Now, it operates in 23 states with a workforce of 2,000 employees, covering 12,000 pin codes. Recognized as a top intra-city logistics firm, CABT handles 2 million orders daily. The success of CABT is attributed to Shailesh Kumar’s flexible and strategic business adjustments.
